Staphylocoocci are minor members of normal oral flora, but they are always detected in the oral cavity. The biological activities of oral staphylococci , however, have not been noticed as much . We reported earlier on the production and the characterization of a bacteriocin of S. aureus isolated from saliva1) , which may contribute to the establishement of the oral ecosystem.
